You rarely finish far from where you are after the first 10 games. Or so Clive Tilsley has told me over and over in FIFA 08. But he didn't have this league in mind. The difference between 4th and 15th is 3 points. Any team that puts together a good week can end up in the top 5. We also bid farewell to Badgers FC this week. He's headed off to military school, so he's had his team banned. A pity since he's in the Liberty League. But we know the well-heeled vultures around the world are waiting for Larry Lesley to hit the NT sale. One can only wonder how much he'll sell for. US teams did a little better in the Liberty League this week with wins for Black Chariot and Cheeseheads and a draw for Badgers. Canadian teams managed 2 wins and a loss. Real Westbank and F.C. Universitatea Craiova won while Pink Fuzzie Bunnies lost. I'll send an update of the action midweek as the Copa Americana cranks up this week. Top Five AOG (1) 6-1-2 Gilman (2) 4-3-2 AC Boston (6) 4-3-2 Madison Mavericks (13) 4-2-3 Black Chariot (7) 4-2-3 AOG and Gilman held onto their 1-2 slots this week. Boston moves into third with a win and two draws. Madison is our "mover of the week" moving up 9 places with 2 wins and a draw. BC went 1-1-1 to move up 2 slots. Steady AOG; resilient Gilman AOG continues to lead, but not impress. With 9 goals from 9 games, they aren't exactly lighting up the scoreboard. But they continue to grind aout 1-0 wins, which is the hallmark of a good team. They opened the week with a sloppy 1-0 loss to Nashville. AOG took a lot of shots, just not on goal. They followed it up with close wins against Black Chariot and Carolina. 5 of their 6 wins came by a 1-0 score. Maybe the new chant in the ML will be "1-nil to the AOG." Gilman continues to plod along. A very nice win against Mad River was followed by a theft of a draw against Cheeseheads. The week ended on a sour note as AC Boston won 2-1 at the Mann Stadium, They are also limping a bit as they picked up injuries to Clemence in the MR game and to Qasim and Sanders in the Cheeseheads game. Still, it has to be an encouraging start for the Owls. Stockton shines; Mavs movin' on up AC Boston made their move this week on the back of Jay Stockton. He scored 3 goals to take over the top goal scorer spot. He now has 7 goals in 9 games. He gave Boston a momentary lead against Black Chariot, but the Massacres couldn't hold the lead. Boston went down to 10 men when Ben-arush was sent off, but they seemed to play better with 10. It finished 1-1. They also drew 1-1 against SBS with Stockton bagging the equalizer. Their 2-1 win against Gilman was tight, but they played very well in the second half. Madison obvously had the best week as they sandwiched 2 nice wins around a dreadful 0-0 draw with Badgers. Larry "Bend It" Walsh and Trenton Sanz both scored against Carolina while keeper Nathan Gonlez earned MoM honors. The Mavs-FC Bobcats game was a good one. Boulanger earned a penaly for the Mavs. Yamamoto tied it up. Sanz scored on a corner to win it for the Mavs. The less said about the Badgers game, the better. Cheeseheads, Cape May lurking 2 teams still tryuing to find their form are Cape May and Cheeseheads. A bright start has turned to dust for Cape May. They sandwiched a nice win against Mad River with 2 1-0 losses. Losing to SBS and OUYH probably weren't in the plans for the Skunks. Cheeseheads, on the other hand, seemed to have righted the ship with a comprehensive 3-0 win against OUYH. But Gilman managed to steal a draw and Mad River played the Cheesheads even in round 9. "Great Dane" Olsen went down to injury in the Gilman game, but he looks set to return this week. You have a feeling it's only a matter of time for this team. The top 5 rated performers in the league are all Cheeseheads. Sooner or later, they'll put it all together. Nashville bounces; luckless Maine Nashville seems to be on the rise after a horrid start. If it weren't for a missed penalty by Sjesarcuk, they might have won all three games this week. They seem capable of scoring tons of goals at times. If they could get some consistency, they'd be a force. RKS Maine seem to be snakebit. GK Hugh Smith went down to a long term injury against AOG. This week his backup, Russian GK Sergey "LA PIOVRA" Brize went down for 9 games. The Mainers are finding life difficult in the ML. Players of the week I'll name Jay Stockton of AC Boston and Daniel Booth of Cheeseheads as offensive and defensive players of the week. Stockton scored a goal in each game to help his team move up to 3rd. Cheeseheads young Scottish defender earned 2 Man of the Match honors this week.
