Major League Roundup Week 2 "Change" is the mantra of the season here in the States (at least that's what the Mainstream Media would have you believe) and there was a lot of it in the ML this week. Big changes in the Top 5. Pending change in the NT. And even a name change for one of the clubs. The club formerly known as Notgood is now named OopsUpsideYourHead which is, ahem, not good. Top 5 This week didn't bring any clarity as the top five saw big changes. Last week's number 1 Cape May dropped to 4th. #2 Black Chariot and #4 Bobcats dropped out entirely. AOG moved into first with Gilman tucked in behind. Thedza and Mad River joined the top 5. Mad River is our "mover of the week" up from 12 to 3rd. Some difference from last season. But it goes to show that a good week will put you in contention. AOG (5) 4-1-1 Gilman (3) 3-2-1 Mad River (12) 3-2-1 FC Cape May (1) 3-1-2 Thedza (9) 3-1-2 Gilman amazes; AOG takes advantage Gilman continues to amaze. They thrashed NotGood 4-0, then fought both Black Chariot and Cape May to draws. If they could match their first half efforts in the second half, they'd be dominant. AOG took advantage of a somewhat weak schedule. They battled Badgers to a draw. Beat an RKS Maine side that suffered a brutal injury. Then rolled up a 4-1 spanking of SBS. But good teams win when they are supposed to. That's what AOG did. Cape May, BC stumble Cape May had a tough schedule heading into the week. Losses to Madison Mavericks and AC Boston and the draw with Gilman dropped them to 4th. It's a bit of a tough luck scenario. All games were close and they could have won all three. But they'll have to lick their wounds and get back at it next week. Black Chariot didn't have a bad week with a 1-1-1 record, but it could have been better. After beating up on SBS, they drew with Gilman and dropped a heartbreaker to Thedza. A 90th minute goal was the winner in that game. Lucky dogs Mad River and Thedza Mad River was our "mover of the week" but they could also be our Lucky Dog of the week. A nice win against FC Bobcats was followed by a lucky draw against Texas 1836 and an even luckier win against Madison Mavericks. 10 man MR put very little pressure on and snatched the win with a late corner, A late winner was also in the cards for Thedza as Bo Stevenson scored in the 90th minute to give them a miracle victory over BC. Earlier in the week they had lost to Texas, but beat Madison with a penalty at the start of the second half. Cheeseheads, Nashville get wins; Hard-luck Maine For a brief moment, Cheeseheads were in the relegation zone. But they seemed to have righted the ship by the end of the week with a 3-0 win over Texas. They were unlucky to lose to Carolina. Despite dominating the game, they could only put 1 shot past Karley Adu while Jerome Rapson scored 2 for Carolina. Nashville also finally got a win with a 5-1 rout of FC Arctica. They also played in one of my matches of the week: Promoted side RKS Maine may not survive the ML, but it won't be for a lack of trying. They couldn't muster a shot on goal at the frozen tundra of Borealis Park in a 2-0 defeat at FC Arctica. But they held their own in a 1-0 loss to AOG despite a devastating 7 game injury to star kepper Hugh Smith. Then they played newly christened OopsUpsideYourHead in my second match of the week. They deserve better: Individual honors Omar "The Magician" El Hammouchi gets my performance of the week with his hat trick against Texas 1836. He leads the ML with 5 goals. A close second is the blister of a match turned in by Carolina's Karley Adu in the match against Cheeseheads. Stefan "Great Dane" Olsen is the ratings leader with a solid 8.00 rating from 4 matches. Next week's highlights Next week it will all revolve around Mad River. Was this week's result a fluke or is the magic back at Rolling Thunder Field? Round 7 Gilman FC vs Mad River FC Black Chariot vs AC Boston Round 8 Airing of Grievances vs Black Chariot Mad River FC vs FC Cape May Round 9 Gilman FC vs AC Boston Cheeseheads FC vs Mad River FC Liberty League Last week wasn't kind to the US entrants as they only managed 2 draws and a loss. Canada, on the other hand, had 2 wins and a draw. We'll see if the US teams can keep up with our Canadian counterparts this week. See forum |
