So the plan is for us to talk to Celtic Bhoys after each match to get his side of the story. First up the Azerbaijan match: So CB 2 matches in to the qualifiers and we’re 4 points closer to a World Cup tournament, are you pleased with the performance so far?
Yes and no, I am pleased with the 4 points of course but I know this Irish team can play better.
You’ve come under a bit of flak already, is this justified in your opinion so early on or does it just go with the territory?
Maybe some of it is justified, one could argue that i chose the wrong tactics the last day, but people forget that the Azerbaijan team reached the q/f of the Euros.
A lot of the criticism has centred around you opting for a 3232 formation which involved at least two players playing out of position, what was your reasoning behind this selection?
i wanted a pretty attacking formation as we have excellent OMC's and FC's, it worked out well I thought and we outplayed them, but I was always going to get criticised for that. In hindsight maybe I was trying to be too clever. However the DC who played DMC got a rating of 8 and an assist and unfortunately Glynn got injured before he could make a real impact.
Was the injury to Glynn a turning point in the match? Well it upset the balance of the team I thought, as up to that point we had pretty much dominated the match.
Was the selection of Tully, an OMC/ F, as wing reserve an oversight?
Yes I have to admit it was, but there again it's hard to know what to do, what if it's an OMC that gets injured and you have a MR as sub?
Hungary look a savage side, will there be a change in formation for this one?
Hungary are former World Cup Champions and the nucleas of that team is still there, we will treat them with the respect they deserve and without giving too much away there will be a change in tactics and every player will be in his FP. Then it's up to the players on the pitch to do their job.
Cheers mate and good luck with next week
