He's had a bit of a yoyo time of late, but now Serenity City is back in the big time.

• So Serenity is it good to be back?

It’s great to get another shot at it. Really thought I had missed the chance again.

• Did you do anything different this season compared to last that led to promotion?

Well I only just missed out last season, so I knew I was on the right road. I have a young team that were one year older. That helped I’m sure. Introduced a quality MR in Dymkowski which I had been chasing for the past 2 seasons. Oh and the small fact that the B Sharps were not around helped quite a bit :)

• You’re in the game since season 6, what beeps your jeep about TM?

I’m just addicted I think. Yeah there are times when you get annoyed and walk away cursing the screen, but come game time I’m back glued to it again. Crossing the fingers for that one last attack.

• Is your team stronger for the relegation experience?

Yes. I got there too quickly last time, with 4 successive promotions; I never really got the chance to lay a foundation. Somehow managing to stay there for 6 seasons (3 with spells in Europe), helped and hindered me. It gave me the cash to build up the stadium, the training facilities and youth facilities, but I found myself holding onto older players in an attempt to stay up. Getting relegated gave me the chance to totally overhaul the squad, and bring in some of the youths that were beginning to develop.

• Big changes this season with the new ME, but what are you thoughts on the change?

I have to say I didn’t really notice much difference between this and the last season with the old ME. They say there are less surprises, but you could have fooled me.

• There were a couple of patches to the ME during the season, did you notice any changes?

Near the end of the season, my team forgot how to win a game, but I always seem to get a period like that every season. So it’s hard to say.

• How’s your youth development going, have you enough talent coming through to ensure you remain in the top flight?

I had a good spell there for awhile, and players like KellyMartinKennedy and O’Neill all came through. There are a few players making the move up into the first team this season, but I feel I haven’t had good youth pulls for some time, and that could affect the squad in a few seasons.

• Yeah the old YD is like the bus service...  Anyway, who was your own MVP for this season and why?

It has to be Rada. He’s been fantastic. Scoring, assisting and all round play were just top notch. Missing him for the last few games of the season, cost me top spot I think.

• Any old scores you are most looking forward to settle when you go up?

Rekindling the rivalry against my old Div 2.1 compatriots B Sharps and FC Rage will be something I’m looking forward to. I also always enjoy playing Sharky. My team always seems to raise its game against him.

• In your opinion, is the League of Ireland really getting tougher every season?

Big time. Looking around at the squads that are there now, and comparing them to the squads that where there in my first tenure in the LOI, well there is no comparison. The quality there now is unreal and I really don’t know how I’m going to compete with them.

• Which is the toughest Div 2 group and why…?

I hate to say it, but I really do think that 2.1 just has to be the toughest. There are so many teams there that can just beat anyone on a given day. You look at how well B Sharps did last season in the LOI and then see that he only just got promoted from 2.1 by 1 point and that was down to the results on the last day of the season.

• You’ve a young team, will they have the experience to see you right in Season 19?

It won’t be experience that decides how I do in Season 19. It will be the squad quality and tactics. I have a good mix of age in my squad I feel. Quite a bit of youth, but more experienced players in important positions.

• Did you strengthen the squad over the sales?

I had hoped to bring in at least one, but that may have to wait until I have the cash and the right player comes available. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

• Prediction Time – where do you think you’ll finish next season?

I fear I may be fighting off relegation for most of the season. My team has proved hard to beat in 2.1 with only 2 losses last season, and plenty of draws. Hopefully that will stand to them in the LOI. It could be a long season.

cheers and good luck
