On the 15th of may this potentially giant killing strain of cup fever hit divison 5 clubs throught the league,and with many fearing an epidemic all involved began their assault on this historic F.A.I Trophy. With all of division 4 and 5 the potential for big teams to be outdone by the minnows of division 5 all managers played their full strength sides as the more experienced div.4 teams wanted assurances that they would come out comforable winners,while div.5 teams aimed to shock the football association of ireland by knocking out the biggies. Division 5 toppers and Jose's high flying Manchester Blues the home team prepared to face Ireland 17 with the hope of recording a win as big as their 3-1 win the night before,but with jose telling the press MCB'S were flattered by the scoreline saying that "ireland 17 outplayed" his team in nearly all departments except attack,many began to question the outcome of tonights cup game. As the near 8000 fans crammed into the ABC,many began to question where the irish fans were situated as the stadium was covered in blue with "who are you?,who,who?" chants been started around the stadium..but within 1 minute of the game starting the manchester fans found out "who" they were facing when irelands R.Cassidy made a holy show of blues keeper who looked as though he had one to many spliffs,and as blues defender Bolger shouted at his own goalkeeper it sounded as if he was asking him "did you go to college with Biffo"?,the irish Taosiach who admitted to smoking the illegal substance in college. But just as the irish taught they could cause a huge upset,bang Corcoran done what he does best score goals 1-1,and with any hopes of an upset seemingly over and done with the blues goalkeeper flapped at the ball and in the process punched it into the net 1-2...once again within a minute the blues went back up field and corcoran was once again on hand to equalise 2-2.Then as the 90 minutes came to a stop,extra time began. Man city blues over the 20 minutes of extra time 100% outplayed Ireland 17,and with many of the away fans about to leave the stadium feeling their team had squanderd a historic result came a goal out of nothing,bang.Man city blues were gone from the cup while the irish who will now have more than 17 fans rejoiced all day and night as the beer gardens in manchester filled up. Meanwhile Claremorris recorded one of the biggest wins of the night as David Reilly's team played a stormer on a wet and windy night by defeating migel remerez's CSKA Ballyboffey 3-1,and with many predicting that Claremorris would struggle for the remainder of the season as the environment in the club seemed very hostile as players rebelled against player as their form was taking a huge dip.But with David Reilly denying a rift with his players it was clear to see he was not comfortable.And as the home side took the lead things were looking dull for Claremorris,until new signing J.Idris pulled the side level at 1-1,then as hope began to seep back into the hearts of the C'morris men Idris was once again on target as he scored an absoloute cracker from 25metres.The away team were now on a roll and 15 minutes later new man Idris,yes Idris remember his name finished the game of with a hatrick on his debut,bringing back memorys of wayne rooneys debut at fenerbache some years ago.As David Reilly began his after game conference it was clear to see the heart was put back into the club,and if Mr.Reilly can somehow find goalscorers of Idris's potential he may be hired by the national team who are looking to the future,and the need for goalscorers may see him land some kind of place in the new set up.claremorris's new formation of 4-1-41 also worked a treat. Along with Man city Blues many big teams such as Kaydon Town,Haydens Army,galway rovers,Internet hotshots,Ezek f.c not making the cut first time around. This was not an altogether bad night for division 5 as claremorris,Daragh Mcgills Mcgillyswillys,ireland 17,and to everyones surprise Cushlawn Celtic who were the whopping boys of division 5 along with Huraganeria sojcze who im guessing are natives of the Aran islands,and Barnaderg who also scraped through.Another result worth mentioning is WeWillWin's result after the played an excellent game and done their manager Robert Keane proud by winning,they came out on top of a 4-1 win with goals from O.Buckley,S.Crusse,M.Redmond,and T.Nohilly,these guys if they continue to plays this way will win games and may avoid relegation and im sure they will be pleased to have won a game.well done to all. So after the first round of cup games i am sure their are many clubs who will fear the prospect of facing these division 5 clubs who are now proven giant killers,and they are coming to get YOU!,soon. |
