SEASON 16 – Roundup of Match Day 15

-BIFFS MATCH OF THE ROUND-

This week’s Match of the Round is a real no-brainer.

Just shy of 21,000 fans crammed into The Oaks Stadium to witness what turned out to be one of the most enthralling encounters the Irish leagues have seen in a long, long time.

KOP ON TOP and Moloneys Cojones put on a spectacle that will really take some beating.

It was all guns blazing right from the off for the Carrigmore Crackers and the early pressure would pay off as Aiden Croke expertly set up Michael Murray and the prolific youngster  didn’t disappoint. A blistering 25 yard strike soared into the net giving KOP ON TOP the lead after 15 minutes. It was Murray’s 42nd career goal for the club at the ripe old age of only 21.

KOP ON TOP 1 – 0 MOLONEYS COJONES

Not to be outdone, Moloneys very own prolific youngster levelled the score 3 short minutes later.

Sean Dooley got on the end of a fabulous Musikan cross, his powerful but perfectly positioned header silencing the KOP fans for the first time in the match. The games wheels were now well and truly turning!

KOP ON TOP 1 – 1 MOLONEYS COJONES

The Croke and Murray combination would link up again after 30 minutes for KOP. Crokes expertly timed through ball very fortunately took a bounce on some uneven turf and Murray was on hand to blast his volley into the top corner with great aplomb. A wonderful effort once again giving KOP the lead.

KOP ON TOP 2 – 1 MOLONEYS COJONES

On 41 minutes, Moloneys Egyptian hitman Kashaba took a gamble and broke through the KOP defence chasing a speculative long ball. The gamble paid off and the back four could only look on as the man they call “Only Scores In Friendlies” guided his header into the waiting net... the sides once again level.

KOP ON TOP 2 – 2 MOLONEYS COJONES

Less than a minute later, and just before the half time whistle, all eyes were on Murray as he danced his way through the stagnant Moloneys defence. Bodies were being flung at the 21 year old starlet as he prepared to unleash his strike and possibly complete a first half hattrick. One step ahead of them all, he feinted to the left and slid a cheeky pass through to the onrushing Ben O’Meara who expertly flicked his shot past the stranded keeper. For a 3rd time, the home side had edged in front.

HALF TIME - KOP ON TOP 3 – 2 MOLONEYS COJONES

KOP ON TOP had been the better team in the first half and were well worth their lead... but Moloneys Cojones just wouldn’t go away. It’s true what they say, it’s a game of two halves... and Moloneys were just about to prove it!

The equaliser came in the 54th minute. Moloneys Star midfielder Ethan Hally once again justifying his monstrous wages as he sent Niall Kennedy into the box with a sumptuous pass. Kennedy finished with great finesse and it was as you were once more!

KOP ON TOP 3 – 3 MOLONEYS COJONES

Ethan Hally then turned from provider to scorer 5 minutes later as Moloneys continued to rain down pressure on the KOP goal. A whipping cross sent in from the touchline by Kashaba was expertly nodded past the outrushing keeper by the multi-talented MR as Moloneys capitalised on their best spell in the game thus far to give them the lead for the first time.

KOP ON TOP 3 – 4 MOLONEYS COJONES

For the first time in the match we would have clear daylight between the teams. Moloneys 2nd half dominance brought about another goal, and it came from yet another header. Dooley came racing up the flank from his full back position and delivered a pinpoint cross into the box. Padraig Gallagher was left with very little to do, the accuracy of the cross gifting him an easy header and his first ever senior goal for Moloneys Cojones. With only 10 minutes remaining, surely the 3 points were in the bag??

KOP ON TOP 3 – 5 MOLONEYS COJONES

You should never say never of course, and some poor marking at the back allowed Steven Hehir  to nip in and head home his first of the season. KOP were having a very poor half but they were suddenly right back in it!!

KOP ON TOP 4 – 5 MOLONEYS COJONES

With only 6 minutes remaining, John Griffin broke Moloneys hearts with the 6th headed goal of the evening. An absolutely thrilling climax to an astonishing game....

FULL TIME - KOP ON TOP 5 – 5 MOLONEYS COJONES

Moloneys Cojones club nickname is ‘Ten Myopic Drunks and a Blink GK’... but there seemed to be two blind keepers out there tonight. In total, 14 shots were on target (7 apiece) and 10 of them found their way into the back of the net. It was a real turkey of a performance from both keepers. But that still takes nothing away from the standard of the match and of the finishing, really top class! Both sides deserved more from the game but in the end, a draw is probably a fair result based on the 90 minutes. The only real winner it seems is the fans... an epic encounter that is a clear victor in the Match of the Round choice!

SEASON 16 – Roundup of Match Day 15

DIVISION 2.1

FC Cork 1-0 One nil to the arsenal

Last season it was a LOI relegation battle, this year it may end up being a D2 relegation battle if form doesn’t stabilise for One Nil. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility for a League of Ireland team to go down twice in a row (Biffdons Athletic anyone?? lol) so One Nil must be careful. Cork have firmly established themselves as an outside promotion bet with their early form.

Lahinchians 0-0 St Patricks Athletic FC

Eventless stalemate leaves Pats 2nd but with the leaders slipping up, perhaps this was a big opportunity to close ground lost? Lahinchians sit mid-table in 7th.

 Goldust 1-0 Clonsilla United

A win for Goldust leaves them 5 points off a promotion playoff place. Newly promoted Clonsilla find themselves in the bottom six but it is still early days.

The B Sharps 3-1 Galaticos07

Solid win for Sharps leaves them a solitary point off a playoff spot. Galacticos are hovering just above the relegation zone.

Northern Celtics 1-0 REAL CYMRU

NC are looking like a sound bet for a mid table finish this year. Real have some real work to do if they are to keep their D2 status intact.

Mighty Session Athletic 0-0 Serenity City

Last season’s D3 Champions still sit 4 points clear at the top despite slipping up against former LOI side Serenity. It’s still too early to mention the prospect of promotion...... so I won’t :)

Greenpark Celtic 2-1 Bohblue F.C.

Greenpark just edged out Bohblue in this early relegation zone tussle.

KOP ON TOP 5-5 Moloneys Cojones

An absolute thriller. Moloneys are still very much in the early title hunt.  KOP ON TOP need more attacking performances like this one to move out of the relegation zone.

Clover Rovers 2-1 10 Xavis & a Keeper

A norrow win leaves Clover Rovers in 9th while 10 Xavis end a difficult week in last spot.

DIVISION 2.2

Tallafornia Tokage FC 0-0 Crusaders

The draw drops them to 3rd and 4th. Both sides have enjoyed solid starts to the season.

Leinster Lions 0-2 SALMON WANDERERS

Huge win for Salmon takes them off the foot of the table... just. Poor result for the Lions who are hoping to bounce straight back to the LOI.

Tipperary Scum 1-1 Team_Zissou

Midtable battle ends in a draw. They are now 8th and 10th respectively.

derry fc 2-1 Pathetic Thistle

Big win for Derry that moves them closer to the safety zone. Pathetic drop to 5th.

Maddenstown FC 3-1 Sparta Woodbrook

Maddenstown close the gap to one point and they now straddle the safety line with Sparta barely ahead.

Erin County 0-3 AC Pool

Another convincing win for runaway leaders AC. 7 points clear at the top. Erin sit in 16th.

Hotspur AFC 1-4 galwayrules

Galway thumped 4 past bottom side Hotspur to move up into the playoff spot. It’s still early days but Spurs need to start turning potential into results.

Pats Reds 0-1 Sweaty Conkers FC

Big win keeps Conkers out of the relegation zone. Pats Reds are now 6th , 5 off a playoff spot nut a hefty 12 off the leaders.

 Carlow Cows 0-2 Hertha Dublin

Hetha sit in 9th spot while Carlows indifferent form continues.

DIVISION 2.3

E.K.A  1-3 Real Software

Real comfortable 3-1 winners in the end in this relegation zone dogfight.

Leixlip Utd 0-1 Dozyart Utd

Leixlip and Dozyart are both in the relegation zone after this tight scuffle.

Shout FC 3-0 AC Dublin City

Impressive win by Shout leaves them 3 points clear, still in the driving seat and ever hopeful of a quick return to the LOI. AC stay routed to the bottom.

Donegal Gunners 0-0 Real Sociedad

Sociedad lose ground on the leading pack as the Gunners climb out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Super Nashwan 2-0 Shelbourne F.C.

It’s been a difficult start to division 2 life for Nashwan but they proved they are ready to compete with a solid win over 6th place Shels.

Kill Celtic 1-0 royal meath

A norrow 1 goal win moves Kill into a playoff spot, still a lot of work to do but it’s been a promising start. Only 3 points off the top! Royal Meath sit 7th.

Nuns FC 2-2 Carnew Rovers

Nuns drop to 3rd and Carnew sit 9th, joining 6 other clubs on 19 points.

LEGLESS ATHLETIC 5-2 Benjamin Franklin FC

Legless stay 4th after a resounding 5-2 victory. Only 6 points off the top. Franklin sit mid table in 10th.

FC Brylle 3-1 Drogheda United FC

Impressive win for Brylle in this middle of the table clash.
