2.1 Some Random Musings (or rambling nonsense) Not quite a recap of the last few weeks, this time we’re looking at a snapshot of 2.1 as we get close to the final third of the season, and the gruelling games when relegation slips closer, safety is as fleeting and precious as water in a desert and the final promotion spot is heartbreakingly close... or just too far.
Cavan Celtic have just reclaimed top spot – knocking Eire Everton into second. Seven teams have topped 2.1 so far this season, with Eire Everton being there the longest (so far). Cavan Celtic are top for the second time, they were previously knocked from their perch by 10 Xavis & a Keeper, who are currently eight.
10 Xavi’s share with Lahinchians probably the most “interesting” development curves in the league so far this season. Both started slowly, u t then reached the top spot (Lahinchians were the ones to dethrone 10 Xavi’s) before dropping to just above mid-table. They currently sit seventh and eight.
Galaticos07 will be hoping that they can claim a more interesting curve come the end of the season. Following a poor enough start, they dropped to the bottom of the league and have been in the relegation zone for practically the whole season, and rock-bottom a few times. They are currently clawing their way out and are undefeated in nine games and just three points away from exiting the drop-zone, in 14th with 22 points.
Tofster FC, in their second season in 2.1, started in the relegation zone, touched bottom and then decided to get the hell out of Dodge. After suffering nose bleeds at the dizzying heights of 10th place they have plummeted back into the relegation zone and are 4th from bottom. They are currently on a four game losing streak.
Athletic Llewellyn are bottom, and have been for some time. They’ve gotten quite comfortable, settled in if you will. Bought a couch, done up the basement in some nice pastels. However, they’re currently on a run of four games unbeaten (including a victory over Northside Gaels), and may be in danger of moving off the bottom before the end – though an escape from relegation will be a task of Herculean proportions.
Since Mohamed “OnlyScoresInFriendlies” Kashaba was listed in the losers section a while back, he has managed to score nine league goals. Ronan O’Neill, a winner the same week for scoring in every game has, strangely, stopped scoring in every game! In the time since then he has managed five goals, and Kashaba nine.
