Season 15 Game Day 7 Match of the Day Previews

2.1 Cavan Celtic vs. Tofster FC

League positions:

Cavan Celtic are top of 2.1 with 13 points. Tofster are at the other end of the table – 14th with just 5 points and a solitary win.

Missing men:

Jonathan James is still missing through injury for Cavan Celtic.

Tofster have a full squad available.

Form:

Cavan Celtic are on a three game unbeaten streak, and have lost just once in six.

Tofster won their last game, but have lost three of their six opening games.

Likely Formation:

Cavan are fond of their 4-4-1-1 with a direct style. (I’m not just copying and pasting form last preview. Honest.)

Tofster will play with a 4-4-2, slightly defensive on the pitch and use a balanced playing style.

Key Men:

Ronan O’Neill. Okay – this may be an obvious choice, but that doesn’t make it the wrong choice. He’s the leading scorer in the league, and, after been kept out last game, will want to score again.

Matthew O’Shea. He was last season’s Player-of-the-year, and popped up to score important goals when needed. He’ll have a tough game marking O’Neill, but if anyone in the league can keep up with him it’s Matthew.

Prediction:

Last time I predicted a Cavan defeat they went on to win 6-0, so they may be hoping for another such prediction. The Toffs have trouble scoring, while Cavan have yet to be shut out. I think in the end Cavan’s offensive might will be too much. A 2-0 victory for CC.

2.2 Team_Zissou vs. Fatherword United

League positions:

Zissou are 3rd on 12 points, two points ahead of 6th place Fatherword.

Missing men:

Neither team has anyone missing.

Form:

Zissou are unbeaten so far this season, and have three wins and three draws. In the same six Fatherword have won three and lost two, and are on a four game unbeaten run.

Likely Formation:

Team_Zissou are likely to field a 4-4-1-1 with a balanced attacking style.

Fatherword will face them with a 4-4-2 (Defensive) line-up and will use a short passing style.

Key Men:

Eugen Valent has been a solid rock in the Zissou defence all season. Plus he has the pace to keep up with the short passing of the opposition.

Half of Fatherworld’s six goals this season have come from the boot of Bilal Wenzel . It is likely they’ll be relying on him for more.

Prediction:

There’s not much to choose between them, so I think this one will end up 1-1.

2.3 Athlone Town vs. AC Dublin City

League positions:

Athlone Town are top with five wins and a loss. AC Dublin City are 3rd on 13 points.

Missing men:

Peter Scanlon is injured for Athlone while Dublin City are at full strength.

Form:

Athlone Town are top with five wins and a loss. (CTRL-V) AC Dublin City have lost one, drawn one and won four in the first six.

Likely Formation:

AC Dublin City are most likely going to use a 4-1-4-1 formation with a balanced attacking style. Which is also the most likely formation that Athlone will also use.

Key Men:

Athlone have Jeff Plunkett back after four games out through injury. In the two he played he scored twice and set two others up, and managed two MoM awards. Can Dublin cope with his pace?

Christian Nedelec has two goals so far this season – not to shabby for a midfielder. Expect him to be make more forward runs to help out the lone striker.

Prediction:

Neither team likes losing, and both like scoring. Expect a close tie, with Dublin winning by the odd goal in three.
