Week 2 (Game Days 4-6) Winners and Losers

Winners

(2.1) Ronan O’Neill (plays for Cavan Celtic)

While the heroics of Twente ‘keeper Frank Leggett may have put an end to Ronan scoring in every game, he still tops the scoring charts in 2.1 with six goals from six games. A goal against Northern Celtics in the CC 2-1 victory and a brace during their 6-0 demolishing of The Degraders. All added to the three goals in the opening three games. The ru game to and end against Twente, where Leggett pulled four great saves from O’Neill to help his team to a 1-1 draw, and a MoM performance (and bubbly) for himself.

(2.1) 10 Xavis & a Keeper

Three victories this week saw Xavis climb eight places to 3rd. The week began with a 2-0 win against visiting Athletic Llewellyn. Strikes from Colhoune and Rockwell were the difference, though the game was very tight, much tighter than the score line would suggest. The next win was a lot more convincing – at least score wise. The 4-0 was harsh against Greenpark Celtic, but they should have troubled the Xavi ‘keeper more. And it was a similar story in their 3-2 defeat of Galaticos07. Indeed if it wasn’t for the two goals they conceded by Xavis in this game this entry in the Winners section could very well be inhabited by Marco Oliveira.

(2.1) Tofster FC

On win, one loss and one draw may not be traditional “Winners” form, nor is a climb of just two places in a week. But when compared to the opening week’s results (two losses and a draw) it’s a definite improvement. But their still struggling for goals – they’re currently second worst on goals for, and will be facing the most prolific team next, Cavan Celtic, in the Game of the Round.

(2.2) Fionn “Style” Lynott (plays for Tipperary Scum)

Quite a week for the 21 year old. He was instrumental in the 4-0 victory over Dynamo Dundrum. In a MoM performance he scored his first of the season, as well as setting up Odvan Nicodemos. When Tipp were 2-0 down against Tallafornia Tokage FC, Lynott first scored – two in as many games, then turned provider for Kian Thomas, in another MoM performance. 2-2 at the end.  In the third game of the week he set up the equaliser in Tipp’s 1-1 draw with Fatherword United, provider for Kian Thomas two games running.

(2.2) Kilkenny City

Three wins for three this week sees Kilkenny climb eight places – from 10th to 2nd. A 3-0 victory over Steau 1 was followed by a tight 1-0 win against galwayrules – though members of the GRFC may feel they were robbed. The final game was a trip to Erin County – where two goals from “Hall of Fame” member Tony Hegarty saw them leave with all three points – 2-0 in the end.

(2.2) Fatherword United

Bottom after two games, and 12th at the beginning of the week, two wins and a draw saw them climb some more – up to 6th. They began with a narrow 1-0 win against cineplex utd – a Bilal Wenzel goal the difference between the two at the end, as well as a Mom performance from goalie Doherty. It was quite similar in the next game – a 1-0 victory, a Wenzel goal and a MoM goalie – this time Shamrock Clovers’ Michael Monaghan. Finally the Sunday game was the 1-1 draw with Tipperary Scum.

(2.3) Cow Tipping Dwarfs

After a 0% opening three games, Dwarfs stopped the rot with a scoreless draw away to Benjamin Franklin FC – an even game that saw Dwarfer Eeg sent off for a second bookable offence – poor refereeing for an obvious dive. It got better – a comprehensive 4-0 romp at home to Leixlip Utd. The front pairing for the Dwarfs were in devastating form – a pair each for Flynn and Sparky. Con were the final victim this week – they went 3-0 down to the visiting Dwarfs.

(2.3) Athlone Town and AC Dublin City

While neither had a 100% record this week (Athlone lost one and AC Dublin City drew), two wins apiece was enough to move them into 1st and 3rd respectively.  Athlone began the week with a 2-0 loss at home to Carnew Rovers, while Dublin were drawing 0-0 with Sweet Feet FC. The weekend games saw them both win twice – Athlone beating Benjamin Franklin 2-0 and E.K.A. 2-1, while Dublin beat Real Sociedad 2-1 and donomore athletic 4-0. The pair meet mid-week in the Game of the Round in 2.3.

(2.3) Eoin McCoy (plays for royal meath)

Currentlt the leading scorer in 2.3, McCoy enjoyed a good week. He provided the pass Garcia half-volleyed for the opener in the 1-1 draw with Con. He then netted himself two in the 4-2 win over donomore athletic. He then topped it off with a MoM performance in the 2-2 draw with Sweet Feet FC.

Losers

(2.1) Tober Na Clug Titans and Athletic Llewellyn

Half of last week’s 2.1 losers section, both teams are still without a win. Hopefully I’ll have another team to mention next week.

(2.1) Mohamed Kashaba (plays for Maloney Cojones)

A close season buy – 129m in the sales, Mohamed has yet to net for Cojones. Nor has he done much else – no assists either. Indeed it could be argued that the best result of the season so far for Cojones was the 3-2 beating of Cavan Celtic. It was the only game this season that Kashaba hasn’t played in. The last three games have been very poor for him -  no goals, nor assists and ratings of 1, 2 and 3.

(2.2) Andy Whitty (plays for cineplex utd)

When you play with a lone striker, you’re depending on him to score the majority of your goals. Andy has only managed one so far this season, in the 2-0 victory at Pats Reds. While it has been mentioned that the injury to first (and only) choice keeper Heaslip had a detrimental effect on the start of their campaign, the fact that in the two 1-0 defeats (against derry fc and Fatherword United) this week, Whitty only troubled the opposition keeper once in each game is telling. Cineplex were never outmatched in either game – a more telling contribution from their forward could have netted them a few points.

(2.2) Steua 1

Two losses and a draw have seen Steau 1 drop the most this week – down from 7th to 16th. The week began badly with a 3-0 defeat to Kilkenny City. It was a comprehensive thrashing and could have been a lot worse. That was followed with a narrow 1-0 loss to Pathetic Thistle. If it wasn’t for the heroics of thistle’s ‘keeper Christian Lynott, the match could, maybe should, have ended a draw. They finished the week with a 1-1 draw against Carlow Cows.

(2.3) Leixlip Utd

Defeats to Real Software (3-0), Cow Tipping Dwarfs (4-0)and Romero FC (2-1)saw Leixlip drop to 16th. Not good.
